Payroll Manager
Bargain Chemist has been serving Kiwi communities since 2018, growing into a favourite destination for healthcare and retail needs across New Zealand. We are 100% Kiwi owned and operated; we're looking for a proactive, experienced Payroll Manager to join our Head Office team.
About the role
The main part of this role is end-to-end weekly payroll processing for a variable workforce with full-time, part-time and casual employees, along with payroll queries, employee maintenance, and updating employee records. It's a busy, fast-paced role suited to someone resilient and proactive - and as we continue to grow, so will this role and the scope of the payroll operation. You will be supported by a part-time Payroll Administrator, who will report to you.
Scope of the role (includes but is not limited to):
- Full end-to-end processing of weekly pays for 600+ employees
- Employee maintenance, including new starters, terminations, and updating employee records
- Onboarding new employees into our Ready Workforce payroll system
- Managing and supporting a part-time Payroll Administrator
- Daily and weekly maintenance of employee leave and roster verifications
- Answering and resolving employee payroll queries, including troubleshooting as required
- Ensuring compliance with current New Zealand employment
law and payroll legislation
What we're looking for:
- Previous experience in end-to-end weekly payroll for an SME, preferably 4+ years, ideally with a medium sized workforce and wanting to grow
- Experience with the Ready Workforce payroll system is highly advantageous
- Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills
- Sound understanding of current New Zealand payroll legislation
- High accuracy and strong attention to detail
- Ability to work autonomously and independently, as well as part of a team
- A calm manner, able to work well under pressure to meet weekly deadlines
- Methodical and well organised
